Autogate Roller Repair

There are two kinds of gates that rely on rollers and a floor track to slide open and closed: sliding auto gate and folding auto gate. Sliding auto gates are mostly used in semi-detached houses, bungalows, and factories. Surprisingly, some terrace houses in Klang also have sliding gates. They often have two separate sliding gate panels with a pillar in the middle. That means you can enter from either the left-side gate or the right-side gate. Folding autogates are the most common type designed for terrace houses, holding about 90% of the market share since most of us live in terrace houses. Haha! Sliding autogates tend to experience fewer issues and provide greater security compared to folding autogate and swing autogate. This is because once a sliding autogate motor is installed, lifting the gate becomes impossible. Now let’s take a closer look at the common problems that often arise with folding autogate rollers.

Folding Gate Has Got Many Known Issues

A folding gate has more mechanisms compared to a sliding gate and is sometimes called a bi-fold gate. It features two hinges between the gate panels. If the gate maker miscalculates the level or lacks experience, the folding gate may become very loose or very tight during operation. In some cases, you may notice that the gate is not straight, misaligned, or has a large gap between the two panels. A folding gate relies on a track or rail to operate, and in many cases, the track may be sunken in some areas, broken, or have other issues that cause the folding gate to derail. Below, we highlight some problems associated with folding gates. In my 30 years of experience in this industry, I have never encountered a folding autogate that operates without any issues.

Folding Autogate Roller Derail From Track

Your folding autogate is having trouble running smoothly, coming off its track, or seems wobbly, the issue is likely with the autogate rollers, also known as autogate wheels. The autogate rollers have small steel balls in their bearings. Over time, the bearings wear out and rust, especially due to rain. This can make the steel balls fall out, causing the autogate rollers to not move smoothly. When the autogate rollers don’t move smoothly, and the autogate arms continue pulling the gate to open or close, that is why the gate jumps off its track. A folding gate has many mechanisms, including pillar bearings, middle hinges and bottom wheels. When there are more parts, there’s a higher chance of things going wrong. In comparison, a swing gate only has pillar bearings which for sure has very less problem.

With folding autogates, there are some issues you might encounter regularly. When the track sags or gets dented, the rollers can jump off. If the gate isn’t aligned properly, it can also come off the track. And when the folding gate is installed on a slope, it might eventually slide off the track over time.

It’s important not to blame the autogate arms for this issue. Even without the autogate arms, the problem with the folding gate roller would still exist. It’s just that you might not notice it when manually opening the gate slowly by hand.

It’s unfortunate to face situations where customers are aware of the recurring issue with gate wheel derailment. Customers just do not want to tell the truth. Their autogate wheel problems have been around for years. Customers act like they don’t know and blame the autogate companies

In some cases, when customers’ autogates malfunctions, they take the opportunity to have an autogate installer replace the entire auto gate systems. Later, when the gate derails again, they put the blame to the auto gate installer for the wheel problem, leading to arguments and requiring the auto gate installer to come back and solve the underlying autogate wheel problem.

Autogate Installers Refuse To Fix Roller Problems

Some autogate installers might refuse to fix auto gate roller problems not caused by their auto gate systems. This can result in payment issues because they end up not getting paid for their work.

There’s a case we dealt with previously that resonates with this. A customer in Sri Petaling got us to replace the right side of their auto gate arm. But after a few months, they complained about the arm, saying the arm is causing the wheel to jump off track. After we checked the arm and roller, we found out the problem was because the roller was rusty. The customer argued that the roller was fine before we replaced the arm. While we were talking to the customer, the neighbor next door arrived home and came to see what was happening. Guess what he said? The neighbor asked, ‘Peter, did you manage to sort out that wheel problem? It’s been causing headaches for years. Remember when the whole gate collapsed? We caught him red-handed; he lied to us.

Stainless Steel Autogate Roller

Sam’s autogate offers two types of autogate rollers: mild steel and stainless steel. Normally, we quote and use stainless steel folding gate rollers because they are resistant to rusting. Stainless steel and mild steel autogate rollers are similar, but they’re made from different materials. Let’s discuss their structure.

The autogate roller has two bearings on each side, along with a stainless bracket. This bracket houses a bolt that runs through the center, fastened securely by a nut for tightening.

On top of the stainless bracket, there is a swiveling shaft (axis) equipped with a concealed bearing. This concealed bearing is for you to discreetly mounted within the hollow of the gate frame.

In a roller, there are usually three bearings. The top one helps the roller to swivel. It’s really important. If it doesn’t get lubrication for a long time, it can get rusty, wear out, and the little steel balls inside might fall off.

Once the steel balls in the bearing fall off, the roller doesn’t move smoothly anymore. This makes your autogate wobble and move unevenly, causing the gate to jump off track during opening or closing.

If you’re having trouble with your autogate roller jumping off, Sam’s autogate can help replacing it. Just give us a call at 03 – 8062 5891 or 012 – 405 8791.

Sliding Autogate Roller Derail From Track

Is your sliding autogate struggling to move or has it come off its track? If so, don’t worry – the experts at Sam’s Autogate are here to provide professional advice. Here’s what you should do.

If your sliding gate comes off its track, don’t use it anymore to avoid breaking the motor or causing the gate to fall down.

When your sliding autogate derails, it’s recommended to reach out to a professional autogate repair service like Sam’s Autogate. These sliding autogates are typically very heavy, with an average weight more than 500kg, some gates can go up to 5000kg. Attempting to move it without proper expertise may lead to personal injury or worsen the damage to your gate system. Trying to repair it on your own could result in serious injury or further damage to your autogate mechanism.

Always keep in mind that a sliding gate doesn’t fall off their tracks without reason. There are usually underlying issues such as worn-out rollers (autogate wheels) or track misalignment, that need to be repaired by a professional gate technician like Sam’s Autogate.

What Causes A Sliding Autogate To Derail?

Worn-Out Wheels: Over a period of time, the wheels’ ball bearings degrade, causing the wheel jamming (become stuck) and not rotating and subsequent derailment of the sliding gate.

Worn-Out Track: Similar to the wheels of a sliding autogate, autogate tracks are subject to wear and tear. The track of a sliding gate can suffer from various forms of damage, including rust, holes, fractures, bends, dents, or cracks, all of which can affect its functionality, causing jerky movements and increasing the risk of derailment.

Uneven Ground: The track of an autogate requires a perfectly level foundation to function smoothly. Unfortunately, some contractors may only place cement underneath the track during installation, which may not adequately provide the need for a level surface. Over time, soil movements can lead to autogate track sagging and unbalancing.

Factory Autogate Roller And Track Replacement Expert

We have many years of experience helping factories replace their autogate rollers and auto gate tracks. The entrance is the most important area for a factory. If the autogate gets stuck in the middle, lorries and trucks won’t be able to enter or exit the factory, which interrupts your business operations. It is very hard to find contractors who can assist with replacing factory autogate wheels because it requires significant manpower and tools to lift the gate. Most of the autogate technicians in the Klang Valley operate alone.

No worries, you’ve come to the right place! Sam’s Autogate can assist you with replacing factory gate rollers. We have the tools and expertise to handle the job effectively. We have replaced thousands of factory gate rollers, including the largest gate, which is 80 feet long, and the heaviest gate, weighing 6 tonnes. Each of our tools can handle up to 15 tonnes in weight, and we typically use four of them, allowing us to manage a total weight of 60 tonnes, which is well above the weight of your gate.

Nine out of ten factories have problems with their autogate tracks. The most common track issues include dented, sunken, rusted, or broken tracks. This is often due to the dusty environment created by heavy vehicles constantly coming in and out. Mud, tree leaves, sand, soil, and stones can build up near the motor and track. Factories often ignore this area and do not hire cleaners for maintenance. If you’re having problems with the track, no worries! We can help you replace it with a new one.
